A spiky-looking mushroom that lowers the damage you take. Somewhat of a counterpart to the Crushroom, which increases the damage you deal. They are found as early as Floor 1 of the Tower, growing on the ground or from the corpses of dead Screamers. Guardshrooms and Helmetshrooms may be considered an upgrade to these, as they temporarily negate damage completely.

Damage Down

The wording on this effect may seem a little misleading - it means that 50% of the damage you take goes down, not the damage that you deal. This is effectively an increase in Defense. In any situation where you may be afraid of taking excess damage, eating a Toughshroom beforehand will help mitigate the risk. This effect Stacks, meaning that if you eat multiple of this shroom, the effect duration will continue to increase.

You may want to save a couple in storage to use against Bosses or during Raids. Although there are better defensive mushrooms found higher, Toughshrooms can still be a viable alternative due to how common they are. Toughshrooms may be eaten alongside Stingshrooms to mitigate their effect of increasing your damage taken.
